- 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 2 cups shredded Gruyère or Cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp nutmeg optional
- Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
Preheat oven: Set to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare cream mixture: In a saucepan, melt butter. Add garlic, cream, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Simmer 2–3 minutes.
Layer potatoes: Arrange half of sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half the cream mixture over. Sprinkle 1 cup Gruyère.
Add second layer: Place remaining potatoes. Pour remaining cream. Top with remaining cheese and Parmesan.
Bake: Cover with foil and bake 35 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15 minutes more until golden.
Rest: Let sit 5 minutes before serving.
Garnish: Sprinkle fresh parsley on top.
