There is something magical about a homemade Black Forest Cake Recipe. It feels rich, soft, and full of love. I still remember the first time I baked this cake.

Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • All-purpose flour – 1 ½ cups
  • Cocoa powder – ½ cup
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Eggs – 3 large
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil – ½ cup
  • Baking powder – 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon

For the Filling and Frosting:

  • Fresh cream – 2 cups chilled
  • Powdered sugar – ½ cup
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon

For the Cherry Layer:

  • Cherries fresh or canned – 1 cup
  • Cherry syrup – ½ cup

For Decoration:

  • Chocolate shavings – 1 cup
  • Whole cherries – for topping

Instructions
 

Prepare the Cake Batter

  • In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Slowly combine both mixtures. Mix gently until smooth and lump-free.

Bake the Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. Grease your cake pans and pour the batter evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes. Check with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, your cake is ready. Let it cool completely.

Whip the Cream

  • Take chilled cream in a bowl. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until soft peaks form. Do not overmix. The cream should be light, fluffy, and smooth.

Slice the Cake Layers

  • Once the cake is cool, cut it into two or three layers. Use a sharp knife or cake leveler. Try to keep the layers even for a neat finish.

Soak with Cherry Syrup

  • Place the first layer on a plate. Brush it with cherry syrup. This step keeps the cake moist and flavorful. Do not skip this part.

Add Cream and Cherries

  • Spread a thick layer of whipped cream on the cake. Add chopped cherries on top. Spread them evenly so every bite has fruity flavor.

Repeat the Layers

  • Place the next cake layer on top. Again, soak with syrup, spread cream, and add cherries. Repeat this process until all layers are stacked nicely.

Frost the Cake

  • Cover the entire cake with whipped cream. Smooth the sides and top using a spatula. Take your time to make it look clean and even.

Decorate the Cake

  • Add chocolate shavings all around the cake. Pipe cream on top if you like. Place whole cherries on top for a classic look.

Chill Before Serving

  • Place the cake in the fridge for at least one hour. This helps the layers set properly. The flavors also become richer and more delicious.

Notes

  • Use dark chocolate for deeper flavor
  • Add a little coffee to enhance chocolate taste
  • Use canned cherries if fresh ones are not available
  • Try chocolate ganache for a richer topping
  • Make mini cakes for special occasions
  • Add a splash of cherry juice for extra moisture
