For the French Toast
- 8 thick slices brioche bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons butter
For the Bananas Foster Topping
- 4 ripe bananas sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- Pinch of salt
Optional Toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Maple syrup
- Whipped cream
Prepare the Egg Mixture
Take a large bowl and crack the eggs inside. Add milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Whisk everything until smooth and creamy. The mixture should smell sweet and warm from the cinnamon and vanilla.
Slice and Prepare the Bread
Start the Bananas Foster Sauce
Take a medium saucepan and melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and a small pinch of salt. Stir slowly until the sugar melts into a smooth caramel sauce.
Assemble the French Toast
- Use brioche or challah bread for the softest texture.
- Slightly stale bread works better than fresh bread.
- Add pecans instead of walnuts for a different crunch.
- Sprinkle extra cinnamon for stronger flavor.
- Use salted butter for deeper caramel taste.
- Add a splash of orange juice for freshness.
- Top with vanilla ice cream for a dessert-style version.
- Cook on medium heat to avoid burning the bread.
- Use ripe bananas for natural sweetness.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
