Chinese BBQ Pork, also called Char Siu, is a famous dish. It is sweet, smoky, and savory with a caramelized glaze.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs pork shoulder or pork belly
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring optional

Instructions
 

  • Slice pork into long thick strips.
  • Mix sauces, sugar, honey, vinegar, and spices.
  • Add garlic, sesame oil, and food coloring.
  • Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
  • Place pork strips into the marinade.
  • Cover bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Line tray with foil and place pork.
  • Roast for 25 minutes, turning once.
  • Brush with leftover marinade.
  • Increase oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Roast 15 more minutes until caramelized.
  • Check temperature, pork should be 145°F.
  • Rest pork for 10 minutes.
  • Slice thin and serve hot.

  • Marinate overnight for the best flavor.
  • Use pork shoulder for tender meat.
  • Brush glaze often for shiny coating.
  • Add red food color for restaurant-style look.
