Ingredients

  • 8 ounces smoked salmon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Crackers or toasted bread for serving
  • Extra dill for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Take the cream cheese out early. Soft cream cheese blends much easier. Chop the dill and garlic finely. Cut the smoked salmon into smaller pieces for easier mixing later.

Blend the Base

  • Add cream cheese, lemon juice, mustard, garlic, and black pepper into a food processor. Blend slowly until smooth and creamy. Scrape the sides once to mix everything evenly.

Add the Salmon

  • Place smoked salmon into the processor. Pulse gently several times. Do not overblend the salmon completely. Small salmon bits give the mousse better texture and flavor.

Whip the Cream

  • Pour heavy cream into a bowl. Whip lightly until soft peaks form. This makes the mousse airy and fluffy without feeling too heavy or dense.

Fold Everything Together

  • Move the salmon mixture into a bowl. Fold in the whipped cream gently using a spatula. Add chopped dill and mix carefully until smooth and creamy.

Chill the Mousse

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place it in the fridge for at least one hour. Chilling helps the mousse firm up and taste even better.

Garnish and Serve

  • Spoon the mousse into small serving bowls or ramekins. Top with fresh dill and extra salmon pieces. Serve with crackers, cucumber slices, or toasted bread.

Notes

  • Use cold smoked salmon for the best flavor.
  • Add capers for a salty and tangy twist.
  • Fresh herbs always taste better than dried herbs.
  • Chill serving bowls before adding mousse.
  • Use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese for a lighter version.
  • Add a little horseradish for extra heat.
  • Serve in cucumber cups for parties.
  • Do not overwhip the cream.
  • Blend slowly for the perfect smooth texture.
  • Add a pinch of paprika for color and flavor.
