Equipment

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Glass jar or container for storage

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup cold water for cornstarch slurry

Instructions

  • Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix 1 cup of water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Prepare Cornstarch Slurry: In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and ¼ cup cold water until smooth.
  • Thicken the Sauce: Gradually add the cornstarch slurry to the simmering sauce, whisking continuously. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Cool and Store: Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool. Transfer the Kinders Teriyaki Sauce to a glass jar or container and refrigerate for up to two weeks.

Notes

  1. Spicy Kick: Add a teaspoon of chili flakes or a tablespoon of sriracha for a spicy version.
  2. Pineapple Twist: Include ¼ cup of pineapple juice for a tropical flavor.
  3. Orange Zest: Stir in some orange zest and a bit of juice to add a citrusy punch.
  4. Ginger Boost: Increase the amount of ginger if you prefer a more pronounced ginger flavor.
  5. Sesame Enhancement: Add extra sesame oil or some toasted sesame seeds for a deeper sesame profile.
