Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup grated cheese optional but recommended

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Wash and peel the potatoes carefully. Slice them thin using a knife or slicer. Try to keep slices even. This helps them cook evenly and gives a soft texture.

Make the Cream Mixture

  • Take a saucepan and add butter. Let it melt on medium heat. Add garlic and cook for one minute. Pour in cream and milk. Stir gently and add salt, pepper, and paprika.

Layer the Potatoes

  • Grease your baking dish lightly. Place one layer of potatoes at the bottom. Pour some cream mixture on top. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used. Add cheese between layers if you like.

Cover and Bake

  • Cover the dish with foil. Place it in a preheated oven at 180°C. Bake for 40 minutes. This step helps potatoes cook fully and absorb the creamy flavor.

Bake Until Golden

  • Remove the foil carefully. Bake for another 20 minutes. The top should turn golden and slightly crispy. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold potatoes for a creamy texture
  • Add onions for extra flavor
  • Try adding herbs like thyme or parsley
  • Use cheddar or parmesan cheese for richness
  • Add cooked bacon for a smoky twist
