  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Line tray with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar.
  • Cut butter into dry mixture.
  • Rub until crumbs form.
  • Add buttermilk and vanilla.
  • Mix gently into soft dough.
  • Turn dough onto floured surface.
  • Pat dough lightly.
  • Cut into rounds.
  • Place on prepared tray.
  • Bake for 12–15 minutes.
  • Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Keep butter very cold.
  • Do not overmix the dough.
  • Use a sharp cutter.
  • Press straight down only.
  • Chill dough if warm.
  • Bake on middle rack.
