  • 100 ml milk
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Chop onions, carrots, and celery into small pieces. Mince the garlic. Fresh vegetables make the filling taste amazing.

Cook the Minced Beef

  • Heat a frying pan. Add minced beef and cook until browned. Break it apart with a spoon.

Add the Vegetables

  • Stir in the chopped onions, carrots, and celery. Cook for 5–6 minutes until soft.

Add Garlic and Tomato Puree

  • Add garlic and tomato puree. Cook for 2 more minutes to release flavors.

Pour in Stock and Season

  • Add beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer gently for 15 minutes until thickened.

Boil the Potatoes

  • Place peeled potatoes in a saucepan. Cover with water, add salt, and boil for 15–20 minutes until tender.

Mash the Potatoes

  • Drain the potatoes. Add butter and milk. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper.

Assemble the Pie

  • Preheat oven to 200°C / 180°C fan / 400°F. Spoon beef mixture into a baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes on top evenly.

Optional Cheese Topping

  • Sprinkle grated cheddar over the mashed potatoes for a golden, crispy finish.

Bake the Cottage Pie

  • Bake in the oven for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling. Serve warm.
