Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled sliced peaches (fresh, frozen, or canned)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for the peaches
  • 1/2 cup water omit if using canned peaches in syrup
  • 1 stick 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for the batter
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional

Instructions

Prepare the Peaches

  • Combine peaches, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. This softens the fruit and creates a delicious syrup.

Melt the Butter

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the stick of butter in your baking dish. Put it in the oven until it melts completely.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Make sure there are no large lumps. This ensures your crust rises evenly.

Add the Milk

  • Slowly pour the milk into the flour mixture. Stir gently until the ingredients are just combined. Do not overmix the batter at this stage.

Layer the Batter

  • Remove the hot baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter directly over the melted butter. Do not stir the batter and butter together.

Add the Fruit

  • Spoon the peach slices and syrup over the batter. Again, do not stir the mixture. The batter will rise through the fruit while baking.

Bake to Perfection

  • Place the dish back into the oven. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The top should be golden brown and the edges bubbly.

Notes

  • Self-Rising Flour: You can use self-rising flour instead of all-purpose. Just skip the baking powder and salt if you do.
  • Spice it Up: Add a dash of nutmeg or vanilla extract. These flavors pair beautifully with warm peaches.
  • Using Canned Peaches: If using canned fruit, do not drain the syrup. It adds extra moisture and sweetness to the cobbler.
  • Berry Twist: Mix in some blackberries or blueberries. This creates a colorful and tart "Peach Berry" cobbler.
  • Crispy Edges: Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top before baking. It creates a wonderful crunch.
