Ingredients

For the Blueberry Filling

  • 5 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish. This prevents sticking and makes serving much easier after baking.

Make the Blueberry Filling

  • Place blueberries in a large bowl. Add sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir gently until the berries are coated evenly and everything is well combined.

Transfer the Filling

  • Pour the blueberry mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly with a spoon. This helps the berries cook at the same rate.

Mix the Dry Topping Ingredients

  • In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir everything together until the ingredients are evenly mixed throughout.

Add the Butter

  • Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a fork or pastry cutter. Mix until you see small crumbs forming throughout the mixture.

Cover the Blueberries

  • Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the blueberry filling. Make sure the berries are covered well for the perfect balance of fruit and topping.

Bake the Dessert

  • Place the dish into the preheated oven. Bake for about 40 minutes. The topping should turn golden brown and the filling should bubble.

Let It Cool

  • Remove the dessert from the oven carefully. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes. This helps the filling thicken before serving.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve warm on its own or with vanilla ice cream. The warm blueberries and crunchy topping create a delicious combination everyone loves.

Notes

  • Use frozen blueberries if fresh ones are unavailable.
  • Do not thaw frozen berries before using.
  • Add chopped pecans for extra crunch.
  • Try a mix of blueberries and raspberries.
  • Use light brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • Add extra cinnamon for a warmer taste.
  • Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
  • Keep butter cold for the best crumble texture.
