Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg pork shoulder boneless
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

Prepare the Pork

  • Wash the pork and pat it dry with paper towels. Trim extra fat if needed. Rub olive oil all over the meat. This helps the spices stick better and adds flavor to the outer layer.

Mix the Spice Rub

  • In a bowl, combine salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder. Mix well. This spice blend gives the pork a rich and smoky taste that feels warm and comforting.

Season the Meat

  • Rub the spice mix all over the pork. Make sure every side is covered well. Press the spices gently so they stick. This step is important for deep flavor in every bite.

Place in Slow Cooker

  • Put the seasoned pork into the slow cooker. Add chicken broth around it. This keeps the meat moist while cooking. Do not pour liquid directly on top of the spices.

Cook Low and Slow

  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 8 hours. The meat will become very soft. It should easily fall apart when touched with a fork.

Make the Sauce

  • In a bowl, mix barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until smooth. This sauce adds sweetness and tang to balance the savory pork flavor.

Shred the Pork

  • Remove the cooked pork carefully. Place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into small pieces. It should be very tender and easy to pull apart.

Mix with Sauce

  • Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker. Pour the prepared sauce over it. Mix gently so all pieces are coated evenly with the sauce.

Cook Again Briefly

  • Let the pork cook for another 20 minutes on low heat. This helps the sauce soak into the meat fully. The flavor becomes richer and more delicious.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve hot on buns, rice, or with salad. Add extra sauce if you like. Every bite will be juicy, soft, and full of flavor.

Notes

  • Use bone-in pork for more flavor
  • Add a splash of cola for sweetness
  • Try spicy sauce for extra heat
  • Cook in oven at low temperature if no slow cooker
  • Use leftovers for sandwiches or tacos
  • Add smoked paprika for deeper taste
