Ingredients

  • 10 –12 manicotti pasta shells
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

Boil the Pasta Shells

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add manicotti shells and cook until slightly firm. Do not overcook them. Drain carefully and lay them flat to cool.

Prepare the Cheese Filling

  • In a large bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. Add egg, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and seasoning. Stir well until smooth and creamy.

Fill the Manicotti Shells

  • Use a spoon or piping bag to fill each shell. Be gentle so they do not break. Make sure each shell is evenly filled.

Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of your baking dish. This prevents sticking and keeps the pasta soft.

Arrange the Stuffed Shells

  • Place the filled manicotti in the dish in a single layer. Leave a little space between them for even cooking.

Add the Sauce

  • Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the shells. Make sure they are well covered so they stay moist.

Add Extra Cheese

  • Sprinkle some extra mozzarella and Parmesan on top. This creates a golden and bubbly crust.

Cover and Bake

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes. This helps the flavors blend well.

Uncover and Finish Baking

  • Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes. The cheese should melt and turn slightly golden.

Rest and Serve

  • Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. This helps everything set nicely. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use spinach in the filling for extra flavor and nutrition
  • Add cooked ground beef for a meat version
  • Use fresh basil for a brighter taste
  • Try white sauce instead of marinara for a creamy twist
  • Do not overfill the shells to avoid breaking
