Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Saucepan
  • Nutmeg grater
  • Serving glasses

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup Southern Comfort
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg plus extra for garnish

Instructions

  • Beat Eggs and Sugar: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Heat Milk: In a saucepan, gently heat milk and cream until warm but not boiling.
  • Temper Eggs: Slowly add the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  • Combine and Cook: Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until the eggnog thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Add Flavors: Remove from heat. Stir in Southern Comfort, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Chill: Pour the eggnog into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  • Serve: Serve chilled with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.

Notes

  1. Non-Alcoholic: Replace Southern Comfort with non-alcoholic vanilla extract.
  2. Chocolate Eggnog: Add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder during the cooking process for a chocolate twist.
  3. Coffee Eggnog: Mix in 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee with the Southern Comfort.
  4. Nutty Eggnog: Stir in 1/4 cup of almond or hazelnut liqueur.
  5. Spicy Eggnog: Increase the cinnamon and nutmeg, or add a pinch of clove for extra warmth.
