Beat Eggs and Sugar: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until smooth and creamy.
Heat Milk: In a saucepan, gently heat milk and cream until warm but not boiling.
Temper Eggs: Slowly add the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
Combine and Cook: Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until the eggnog thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Add Flavors: Remove from heat. Stir in Southern Comfort, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Chill: Pour the eggnog into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Serve: Serve chilled with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.
Notes
Non-Alcoholic: Replace Southern Comfort with non-alcoholic vanilla extract.
Chocolate Eggnog: Add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder during the cooking process for a chocolate twist.
Coffee Eggnog: Mix in 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee with the Southern Comfort.
Nutty Eggnog: Stir in 1/4 cup of almond or hazelnut liqueur.
Spicy Eggnog: Increase the cinnamon and nutmeg, or add a pinch of clove for extra warmth.
