Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Skillet or grill
  • Spatula
  • Kitchen knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 cups tarot peeled and grated
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for cooking
  • Optional: lettuce tomato slices, and burger buns for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Taro: Peel and grate the taro. Squeeze out excess moisture using a clean cloth.
  • Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the grated taro, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, beaten egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  • Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal parts. Shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cook: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet, cooking each side for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve: Serve the taro burgers on buns with lettuce, tomato slices, and your favorite sauce.

Notes

  • Drain Taro Well: Ensure to squeeze as much water as possible from the taro to prevent the burgers from becoming soggy.
  • Consistent Thickness: Keep patties the same thickness for even cooking.
  • Preheat the Pan: Always preheat your skillet or grill to ensure a nice sear on the patties.
  • Non-Stick Surface: Use a non-stick pan or a well-oiled surface to prevent sticking.
  • Experiment with Toppings: Taro burgers pair well with a variety of toppings; don’t be afraid to experiment.
