Ingredients
  

  • 10 slices stale white bread torn into pieces
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup mixed dried fruit
  • Zest of one orange

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease your baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, soak the bread pieces in milk until soft.
  • In another bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange zest.
  • Combine the egg mixture with the soaked bread. Add raisins and a variety of dried fruits to the mix.
  • Transfer the blend into your greased baking dish and securely cover it with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After removing the foil, continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the surface turns a lovely golden brown.
  • Take it out of the oven and allow it to rest for a few moments before serving.

Notes

  1. Vegan: Use almond milk and vegan butter, and replace eggs with flax eggs.
  2. Gluten-Free: Substitute the bread with your favorite gluten-free variety.
  3. Chocolate Chip: Add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for a sweet twist.
  4. Coconut: Replace 1 cup of milk with coconut milk and add 1/2 cup shredded coconut.
  5. Banana: Layer thinly sliced bananas between the bread for a fruity variation.
