Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced jalapeños pickled or fresh
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm water and olive oil and stir until the dough begins to form.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese, jalapeños, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and black pepper evenly over the dough.
  • Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the edges to seal.
  • Transfer the log onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Sprinkle the top of the bread with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure your yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • If using fresh jalapeños, handling them with gloves can prevent skin irritation.
  • Slash the top of your bread log before baking to prevent the bread from bursting.
  • For a softer crust, brush the bread with melted butter right after baking.
  • Let the bread cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing to maintain its structure.
